Conde Nast Traveler has released the results of a survey they put out regarding the greatest country in the world. With travel booming following the COVID-19 lockdown, many have gone to travel to make up for the time they lost. But according to them, what is the best country in the world?
Well, according to the 2024 results, the winner is Japan!
The island nation has become a hotspot for travelers in 2024, especially among Gen Z travelers. The country is certainly unique, with incredible cherry blossoms, beautiful scenery, culture, food, and friendliness that is unparalleled by any other country in the world. Of course, you can’t forget the loads of underrated tourist spots like the hot springs.
The country itself has seen a surge in tourism following the ease of lockdown restrictions that were imposed by the Japanese government. In fact, it wasn’t until October 2022 that the country allowed tourists back in. Cue the mass tourism to the country — so much so, in fact, that the Japanese government has been forced to address tourism in an effort to make the experience better for everyone overall, such as redirecting visitors from high-density regional areas and collaborating with tourist organizers.
In addition to this, the Japanese yen is currently at one of its weakest points in more than 5 years. This has made the country an even more attractive tourist option, with many finding the country very affordable compared to their home country. According to financial analysts, while bearish trends are continuing, the yen has been making a small comeback in recent weeks mostly due to government intervention. Whether or not it can retain its strength remains to be seen.
Other tourist hotspots made the list including Italy, Greece, and Ireland claiming 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place respectively. Other surprise entries included New Zealand, Turkiye, Sri Lanka, and South Africa.
