This European City Was Just Named The Best the Best Solo Travel Destination in the World

Sometimes, things are just better done solo. Traveling is no exception, and there are many reasons why traveling solo is even better than with other people — chief among them being the ability to do whatever you want, whenever you want. If you prefer traveling solo, you might be surprised to find out you’re not alone. According to Kayak, 50% of Americans planned to travel solo in 2024, while 6 in 10 are planning to eat dinner as a party of one.

But if one were to take a solo trip, where would be the best destinations in the world? While theoretically one could take a solo trip “anywhere”, there are some places better than others. Kayak attempted to answer this question by using data analysis of the safest, most entertaining, and cheapest flight tickets for travelers that won’t break their budget.

The winner was, drumroll please… Berlin.

Kayak rated this city highly (100%, in fact) according to their methodology. This was due to the interesting art, history, and culture. It also has a wealth of dance clubs and nightlife activities, making it easy for solo visitors to hop around town and experience the city. Another advantage the German city has is its relatively affordable accomodation costs, with the average nightly hotel rate hovering around USD$160.

The best city for solo travelers at #2 was Vancouver, British Columbia. For this city, we would recommend (if you have the bandwidth) to travel to Seattle initially, and take a bus from there all the way up to Vancouver. In this route, you will see some of the most beautiful natural scenery the Pacific Northwest has to offer. Kayak gave this city an approximate score of 90% due to the nature and breweries.

Other cities that appeared on the list were Montreal, Paris, Milan, and Dublin. These cities typically have lower average nightly hotel rates and cost per meal, which is another variable used by Kayak in their methodology.
