Labor Day Travel Predicted to Break Records

An already record-breaking travel season is now expected to continue, according to AAA.

According to AAA booking data, this years Labor Dady bookings are up 9% from last year. On top of that, the overall cost of travel had reduced by approximately 2%. What makes this time of year so appealing to travel is that there are typically fewer crowds following the summer travel season. With the weather beginning to reduce from the peak, it also makes it not too hot.

This booking data also suggests that the #1 travel destination is Seattle. This is largely due to the amount of cruises that use this city as a destination. In fact, approximately 30% of overall travel to Seattle is done via cruise ship. Due to the popularity of cruises in this region, Juneau and Anchorage are also in the top 10 list.

If you’re looking to book a cruise, this is the time to go.

Paula Twidale, Senior Vice President of AAA Travel says “This is the time of year to go on an Alaska cruise. There are fewer crowds compared to earlier in the summer, and if you’re lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of fall colors! It’s no surprise Alaska cruises are sold out this Labor Day weekend.”

Airline travel is down 4% compared to this time last year, according to the data. This could perhaps be because of the 11% increase in international travel. Europe is a hot destination for Americans right now, with 8 of the 10 top international aviation destinations being European cities — with Vancouver, Rome, and London being the top 3 respectively.

AAA was created in 1902 and has blossomed into being one of top membership organizations in the entirety of America. They advocate for road safety and offer travelers services such as roadside assistance or trip planning. Due to their long existence and influence in the travel industry, they are often a trusted source of information when it comes to travel data.
