The city of Rio de Janeiro is one of the most famous destinations in the world. Whether it’s the beautiful beaches, vibrancy of the culture, or the beauty of those living there, the country of Brazil as a whole brings plenty of appeal to the proverbial table. Rio de Janeiro unsurprisingly has a lot to offer. This article in particular will break down four specific activities/locations for you to enjoy.
Christ the Redeemer
Christ the Redeemer is arguably the biggest flagship emblem of the city. Considered one of the modern wonders of the world, this statue of Jesus hangs over the city from Corcovado mountain in the famed Tijuca Forest National Park. Constructed in the early 1930s, this statue is visited by millions of people a year. It has one of the best views on earth, and it’s very much worth the trip. You don’t even have to hike up the mountain to get here, either. For a relatively cheap price, a tram will take you up the mountain to the base of the monument. Make sure you bring your camera…this is a special experience.
Copacabana, Lapa, Ipanema, and Centro
There are a few neighborhoods in Rio de Janeiro to check out. All offer their unique characteristics, thus furthering the reality of diversity in this city. Copacabana is famous as the stretch adjacent to the ocean. You have paved paths where you can walk alongside the water. All the while, you can stop at many of the little huts made accessible for drinks and quick bites. Lapa is a nightlife hub, with elite clubs and some terrific music. Ipanema is a bit farther down the beach from Copacabana. However, it’s quieter, cleaner, and just as stunning. The Centro (central) part of Rio showcases some wonderful architecture and structures from past generations. There’s a lot of historical significance here.
Confeitaria Colombo
Located in the Centro neighborhood is a restaurant called Confeitaria Colombo. This establishment was initially created in 1894 by two Portuguese immigrants. When walking in, you see the opulence of a royal palace. Much of the materials used to build the café came from overseas. Many publications consider Confeitaria Colombo among the world’s most aesthetically pleasing spots to grab a coffee and a meal. Take two hours to sit here, enjoy some terrific food and drink, and marvel at your surroundings.
Jardim Botânico
Jardim Botânico is a true gem to behold. This plot of land is more than 300 acres and features tropical wildlife from all over the planet — including the Amazon. The expansive exhibit allows visitors to walk on paths throughout the property with ease. You can also enlist a guide to lead the way if you want more of an informative experience. This is an activity everyone can enjoy — and it’s a bit of a reprieve from the hustle and bustle of downtown. Without a doubt, this is a true paradise.
