Asheville, NC has undoubtedly boomed in popularity in recent years, mostly due to its art scene and home to many artists and creative types. This vibrant city has plenty to do for visitors. He is our top 5 things to do in the city:
5. Biltmore Estate
This historic landmark was built in the late 1800’s and was considered one of the largest private homes in the entire country. It also includes the Biltmore Village, which once served as the home for employees of the owner, George W. Vanderbilt. However, these have since been renovated into incredible restaurants and boutique shops worth stopping at.
4. Asheville Pinball Museum
These are just cool. Seeing old machines from decades ago is quite the interesting time capsules to behold. Of course, we can’t turn down the offering of playing one of the most iconic games of all time on vintage machines. Popularity has increased in recent years, and they recommend arriving early (before opening time) to guarantee your entry.
3. New Belguim Brewing Co.
It wouldn’t be an Asheville experience without a solid brewery, and you can look no further than the New Belgium Brewing Company. It is perfectly located parallel to the River Arts District — guaranteeing a gorgeous view while tasting the taproom. Originally from Fort Collins, Colorado, they recently expanded to Asheville and it has ended up becoming one of it’s more popular locations.
2. River Arts District
Speaking of the River Arts district, you should take a walk through here to experience the wide range of offerings by local artists, from gallery walks to other workshops. Top these off with live music and food trucks, and you’ve got yourself a solid Saturday afternoon. You can find this area along French Broad River, southwest of Downtown Asheville.
1. Grovewood Village
Grovewood Village is often describes as a hidden gem, and we think this is the perfect description. It is located next to Omni Grove Park Inn and is full of galleries like an antique car museum and art collections. Be sure to visit the aforementioned Antique Car Museum, which hosts a unique 1922 American LaFrance fire truck. Also consider the Grovewood Gallery, which is a collection of over 400 artists from all over the country and sell furniture, jewelry, ceramics, glass and much more.
