The Big Easy is one of those places you’ve got to visit at least once in your lifetime. Historically, New Orleans is one of the most unique and diverse places in the United States. A mash-up of unique cultures from all over the globe gives this city an immeasurable richness permeating all facets of life.
World War 2 Museum
Speaking of history, The National WWII Museum is located in New Orleans. It offers immense insight into the war from several standpoints– including from an American perspective. Visitors will be allowed to experience visceral, emotional aspects of the past period where artifacts and records are showcased beautifully. You will certainly get your money’s worth when coming here to the museum. Many have insisted that this is the most comprehensive WWII-related museum in the United States.
Food, Food…and More Food
You will not go hungry while in New Orleans. On the contrary — you’ll have some of the best food you’ve ever had in your life. With influences coming from France, Africa, Spain, Italy, and the Southern region of the country, you will be treated to flavor bombs with every meal. Grab a Po’boy Sandwich at the famed Domilise’s in Uptown. Have some tremendous dirty rice, etouffee, jambalaya, and gumbo practically anywhere in Treme. Bacchanal offers a uniquely awesome location with tremendous wine. Cochon is great for dinner, and Bearcat CBD in the business district is perfect for a hearty brunch. Of course, you must try arguably the two most famous establishments in New Orleans: Commander’s Palace (Garden District) and Café du Monde (French Quarter).
Preservation Hall
This is arguably the most special thing you can do in New Orleans. Right off Bourbon Street is a venue called Preservation Hall. Shows run at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. most days. For close to an hour, you bear witness to some of the best jazz players in the entire world. The hour will fly by as you become transfixed at how darn talented these performers are. Getting a taste of live music in New Orleans is akin to seeing the beach when visiting Los Angeles. In other words…it’s a must.
Garden District
This is more so a place to take a leisurely walk rather than participate in an activity. This part of New Orleans is utterly gorgeous. Gigantic mansions and Victorian-style homes are littered everywhere. In a sense, you’re transported back in time to an era when things were much simpler. The author of this article cannot stress enough how beautiful these streets are. It may behoove you to avoid walking around during the unbearably hot and humid summer days. However, any other time of the year would be perfect in regards to checking out this historic neighborhood.
