Are you ever overwhelmed by how many workout classes there are out here in LA? Fret no longer, here are 10 amazing options you can pick from:
1. Wunderbar
Wunderbar has to be to best reformer pilates class out there. Their challenging classes mixed with their amazing teachers will leave you feeling sore the next day, but keep you coming back for more. Their classes are 45 minutes long and the teacher will always call out corrections or come over and help fix your position. I definitely think it’s worth trying a class here, even if pilates isn’t your usual cup of tea, these classes may change that for you!
2. Soulcycle
I consider Soulcycle to be the “OG” of group fitness classes and one of, if not the first, studio to have a major following. This is a 45-minute high-intensity indoor cycling class with a big focus on music. The classes are set in a dark room and the teachers are calling out to either turn your intensity up, down or to do certain moves on the bikes. Many of the teachers focus on motivating you while you’re in the class and I’ve experienced many that bring a spiritual element to it as well. I highly suggest looking into these classes if you haven’t already!
3. Y7
Y7 is most definitely my favorite hot yoga class out there. Their dark rooms, great music, and amazing teachers make for an unbelievable class. Their studios are set between 80-90 degrees which at first may not feel that intense but once you start your yoga flow you’ll be dripping in sweat. They go through 3 sequences 3 times and on the last one you’re supposed to follow it or do what feels best for your body with no pressure. You’re able to rent mats and towels and they even have showers! If you love hot yoga like I do, I would definitely recommend this class!
4. Rumble Boxing
Rumble is known as one of the best boxing classes in the city. These 45-minute group classes are incredibly fun and upbeat. You will absolutely feel more energized leaving than you did walking in. Like many other group workouts each day of the week they have a different body focus. All you have to buy gloves and wraps and you’re ready to go, unless of course, you have your own. But if you’re a big boxing fan I would definitely try this class out.
5. Avenir
Avenir is a 50 mins reformer pilates studio that has two locations in LA (Burbank and East Hollywood). They have many different types of classes based on what level you’re at such as fundamentals 1, power + flow 1-2, power + flow 2, etc. These classes are challenging but fun. Just make sure you don’t forget your grip socks otherwise you’ll have to buy some at the front desk. If you love a reformers pilates class this one is definitely for you!
6. Hot8 Yoga
Hot8 Yoga offers 60 min classes in their studios reaching temperatures as high as 105-110 degrees. They offer multiple types of yoga class (sculpt, power, etc) and even a barre class too. I’ve taken a lot of hot yoga classes and to be honest, this one has to be the hottest one I’ve ever been to. But it’s also one of my favorites so if you do well in heated classes, I’m sure you’ll love it too!
7. F45 Training
These 45-minute classes use a mixture of cardio-based workouts and strength-based workouts on different days of the week. Only on Fridays and Saturdays can you get those two in one class. Throughout the class you go around the studio to different stages that each have a different workout for you to try. These are timed to try and get as much as you can at each different stage. It’s a fun and upbeat environment and definitely worth a shot!
8. Barry’s Bootcamp
Barry’s is another studio with a cult-like following. Their classes are set in a dark red room with loud tunes. In these 50 min classes you alternate between running and strength training. In these high intense interval classes you can try to run as fast as 11 mph. Every day of the week is a different bodily focus. If you’re a big fan of running and strength training then you should definitely check out Barry’s!
9. Hot pilates
Hot Pilates located in the center of WeHo is one of the studios that many celebrities have been seen frequenting. This heated mat pilates blends infrared heat (which gets up to 104 degrees), music, and movement for this 50-minute intense class. Each day of the week has a different focus and this class is set in a dark pink room. You most definitely get a sweat out so if you’re looking for a heated mat pilates class this is definitely worth looking into.
10. Solidcore
Solid Core has a cult-like following like many studios. You’re either obsessed with it or you’re not. It’s fast-paced environment is like nothing else I’ve been to before. The teachers call out string colors correlating with how many classes you’ve taken to tell the students how heavy the reformer should be for you. No doubt this class will have you shaking. If you like incredibly fast-paced “pilates-like” classes with pumping music this is the class for you.
