RyanAir CEO Wants To Introduce 2 Drink Limit Per Passenger at Airports

Planning on taking advantage of airport bars before your next flight? Airlines have begun suggesting that this is what is contributing to “record high” flight delays.

Michael O’Leary, CEO of European budget airline RyanAir, expressed in an interview with British outlet The Independent that airports should begin capping drinks at 2 per customer. He says this as he claims there have been an unprecedented amount of “antisocial behavior” in recent years.

“We need to have a ban on airports – not [on] selling alcohol, but limiting the amount of alcohol that can be sold to any passenger to two alcoholic drinks,” he told The Independent.

“So in the same way that you have to show your boarding pass when you go through duty free to buy cigarettes or alcohol, we believe you should have to show your boarding pass to buy an alcoholic drink at a bar at an airport.

“And you shouldn’t be served more than two alcoholic drinks – particularly when flights are delayed.”

This comes after there have been many videos online, especially posted to the TikTok platform, that shows these incidents. In July, a RyanAir flight had to make an emergency stop after just 36 minutes following a large brawl occurring on the plane.

O’Leary suggests that passengers drink copious amounts of alcohol to “pass the time” before a flight, citing this as a major reason these events occur. In fact, a record amount of disturbances “this summer” in particular have been recorded. He also went on to say there should be more effective fines and regulations for airports who do not adhere to this rule.

Recently, United Airlines employees recently agreed to a strike. One of the reasons amongst them being working conditions — perhaps related to the increase of pubic disorder at airports and airplanes.
