This Underrated European City Could Be the Next Big Travel Destination

When it comes to tourism — especially in Spain — there are none others than cities like Barcelona. While Barcelona has been touted as the essential tourism experience throughout the years, the crowded tourist spots are beginning to wear on the locals, who have now apparently taken to the streets to protest their distaste of tourists. Additionally, the tourist crowds make it difficult for even other tourists to enjoy themselves.

However, there is one Spanish city that has been gaining attention over the years, and it isn’t Barcelona. It’s Valencia.

Valencia has much to offer — the food and beaches without the overwhelming crowds. People on Reddit agree, with user AlfalfaGlitter saying “Better food, less tourists. Nice places, nice people and nice food. Good place to be.” User StraightAd2667 says “Valencia is most likely the best city to live in Spain, it has it all. And most likely one of the top spots of Europe.”

Valencia is located south of Barcelona and due to this location experiences many days of sunshine per year — approximately 300. If you’re looking for a sunshine break at almost any time of year, Valencia is your destination.

In Valencia, the local food such as Fideuà and of course, the famed paella are must-trys. Don’t look past Horchata and the local sangria either!

If you’re in a beach mood, Valencia has your needs covered. The city has numerous incredible beaches which are all easily accessed from the city centre. You have El Cabanyal Beach, which is close to the Marina. La Malvarrosa Beach is the city’s most famous — and therefore a bit more crowded.

Don’t forget the Central Market located in a beautiful building packed to the brim with stained glass. This is the largest fresh produce market in Europe, so take your time walking around! After shopping (or not buying anything at all), enjoy some tapas at the Central Bar.

In short, Valencia is a fantastic destination for those looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of Madrid or Barcelona. Who knows, maybe you’ll even like it better!
