Hyatt Set To Add Austin, Texas Locations

If you are visiting Austin, Texas in the near future, be sure to look for some of these impressive historical lodgings coming to the Hyatt family.

Hyatt Hotels Corp is looking to take over Hotel Saint Lucia, a 5-star hotel perfectly located at South Congress District. The property itself sits on an estate that dates back to the late 1800s known as the Miller-Crocket House, and was built along the Colorado River. Today, the owners prefer to keep a distinct 60s and 70s vibe throughout the hotel.

Another rumored hotel they are set to take over is the Hotel San José. This is another historical property with history — it was originally built in the 1930s but eventually fell into disrepair after the neighborhood experienced a decline. In the mid 90s, it was revived by a former prosecutor at the Manhattan District Attorney’s office and since then has become known for one of the trendiest hotels in the area.

Lastly, the iconic Austin Motel is on the list for Hyatt. Don’t let the ‘motel’ name fool you, this ideal and relaxing spot is famous in Austin, and has a lot more charm than you might think. In the late 30s, descendants of the German immigrants that bought the block of land in the late 1800’s expanded the lot to include more shops and services — including lodging. After opening in 1938, they haven’t shut their doors since.

The deal for these acquisitions is set to go through later this year. With Austin becoming an increasingly popular city in recent years, Hyatt will hope these investments will pay off by appealing to a younger crowd.
